AT 5 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THIRTY SECONDS, WHAT MAKES THEM WORTH THE MONEY?

With over 111 million viewers in America, it is still the best place to reach a massive audience! And it is THE premier place to find people actually ANXIOUS to be shown a commercial!

WHICH COMMERCIALS STOOD OUT AS THE BEST?

The big winner was Tide. It hijacked the super bowl with seven different ads. Still, we wanted to see more.

DOES IT RUIN THE SURPRISE IF THE COMMERCIALS ARE SHOW BEFOREHAND – what is the effect of SNEAK PEEK?

The power of the tease is mighty. Getting your super bowl ad out BEFORE the big game is as essential as it running IN the game.

Doritos and Mountain Dew did it right with this pre-game warm-up spot with lots of celebrity power.

 

 

Stacking Pringles spot with SNL fav, Bill Hader, received over 30 million views BEFORE it even ran! 
 

 

WHAT MAKE A GOOD SUPERBOWL AD:

HUMOR CATEGORY:

ETRADE “I am 85, and I want to go home”, really hit home with baby boomers!

 

DORITOS “ghost” did it right by making sure the chip was front and center of the joke!

 

HEARTSTRINGS CATEGORY:

Emotion is a strong theme that helps a Super Bowl spot stand out.

“Stand by you” by Budweiser was the BEST IN CATEGORY. Notice few words are spoken, the images and the music set the mood and tell the story. We dare you not to get emotional with this one.

 

CELEBRITY PACKED:

DORITOS BLAZE vs. MTN DEW ICE | Super Bowl Commercial with Peter Dinklage / Busta Rhymes and Morgan Freeman / Missy Elliot pulled a big 60 second spot.

 

MOST GRATUITOUS USE OF CELEBRITY:

ALEXA “loses her voice”, with more personalities than any other ad and it was 1:30 seconds worth of cameos – might have been more distracting than useful, but I predict it will have a huge after game share.

 

MOST INSPIRATIONAL:

Winter Olympics Best of U.S. | Mikaela Shiffrin Super Bowl Ad, “ABFTTB”

Great use of music, and its spot on timing taps into female empowerment, which is very much in vogue.

 

BEST BRANDING:

HYUNDAI “Hope Detector” – Now, this is how you wrap your brand in a story!

STANDING OVATION TO THE INTERNET & SOCIAL MEDIA:

Besides the quarterback catch – the internet and social media were the biggest surprise of the super bowl.

Social media helped TOURISM OF AUSTRALIA pull off the best fake out – it is NOT a new movie, it is a commercial! “DUNDEE The son of a legend returns home.” Starring Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Liam Hemsworth, Jessica Mauboy and Luke Bracey.

 

Jeff Goldblum for Jeep – best use of celebrity for the Jeep and Jeff!

 

SEVERAL ADS MISSED THE MARK:

M&M – nobody wants to eat Danny!

Diet Coke Mango – say what? I did not get it?

Lexus – superheroes are way overdone.

 

BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY:

PETA advertising to a bunch of carnivores stuffed with chicken wings and BBQ – not the right time or the right audience to talk vegan.

Diet Coke “Mango”  – just bad. What a waste of 5 million dollars!
