BLUE

Is the overwhelming “favorite color.”

Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed.

The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming. However, not all blues are serene and sedate.

Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic — an engaging color that expresses exhilaration. Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring.

Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes a mystical borderland of wisdom, self-mastery, and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought, profound insights, and instant understandings.

Blue is the least “gender specific” color, having equal appeal to both men and women. How the color blue effects us physically

Dark Blue:  Credible, confident, dependable.

Light or Mid-Blue: Cool, calm, faithful, quiet.

YELLOW

Shines with optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. Shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future. Yellow will advance from surrounding colors and instill optimism and energy, as well as spark creative thoughts.

Sunshine Yellow: Sunny disposition, Joyful, Young-at-heart

Yellow-Gold:  Intelligent, Warm,  Loves comfort & will pay for it.

ORANGE

The color orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.

Orange relates to ‘gut reaction’ or our gut instincts, as opposed to the physical reaction of red or the mental reaction of yellow.

Orange offers emotional strength in difficult times. It helps us to bounce back from disappointments and despair, assisting in recovery from grief. In fact orange is so optimistic and uplifting that we should all find ways to use it in our everyday life, even if it is just an orange colored pen that we use.

Orange: optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. Orange brings spontaneity, positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life.

PURPLE

Embodies the balance of red’s stimulation and blue’s calm. This dichotomy can cause unrest or uneasiness unless the undertone is clearly defined, at which point the purple takes on the characteristics of its undertone. With a sense of mystic and royal qualities, purple is a color often well liked by very creative or eccentric types and is the favorite color of adolescent girls.

Purple: Uplifts, Calms the mind and nerves, Offers a sense of spirituality, Encourages creativity.

GREEN

Occupies more space in the spectrum visible to the human eye than most colors, and is second only to blue as a favorite color. Green is the pervasive color in the natural world, making it an ideal backdrop in interior design because we are so used to seeing it everywhere.

The natural greens, from forest to lime, are seen as tranquil and refreshing, with a natural balance of cool and warm (blue and yellow) undertones. Green is considered the color of peace and ecology.

PINK

The color pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing.

A combination of red and white, pink contains the need for action of red, helping it to achieve the potential for success and insight offered by white. It is the passion and power of red softened with the purity, openness and completeness of white. The deeper the pink, the more passion and energy it exhibits.

Pink is feminine and romantic, affectionate and intimate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy.

Pink: intuitive, insightful, showing tenderness, kindness, empathy and sensitivity, hope.

BEIGE

Says stability, reliability, and approachability. It is the color of our earth and is associated with all things natural or organic.

Brown: supplies a feeling of wholesomeness, stabilizes, provides a connection with the earth, gives a sense orderliness, timeless, basic, and simple tastes.

BLACK

Is authoritative and powerful; because black can evoke strong emotions, too much can be overwhelming. Black represents a lack of color, the primordial void, emptiness. It is a classic color for clothing, possibly because it makes the wearer appear thinner and more sophisticated.

Black: makes one feel inconspicuous, provides a restful emptiness, is mysterious by evoking a sense of potential and possibility, empowering, not easily manipulated, loves elegance, appreciates classics.

RED

Has more personal associations than any other color.

Recognized as a stimulant, red is inherently exciting and the amount of red is directly related to the level of energy perceived. Red draws attention and a keen use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element.

Red: Increases enthusiasm, Stimulates energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate, Encourages action and confidence, Provides a sense of protection from fears and anxiety, Sexy, speedy, high-energy, and dynamic!

Burgundy or Blue-red: you give a similar message but far less obvious.

GRAY

Is the color of intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. It is perceived as long-lasting, classic, and often as sleek or refined. It is a color that is dignified, conservative, and carries authority. Gray is controlled and inconspicuous and is considered a color of compromise, perhaps because it sits between the extremes of black and white. Gray is a perfect neutral, which is why designers often use it as a background color.

Gray: Elegant, futuristic, cool.
